The former take That singer started amedia feeding frenzy when he proposed to the American actress on Australian radio in an off-the cuff-remark.
The rumour mill then went into overdrive on Friday after his mother confirmed that the Robbie was planning to pop the question- and had already bought the ring.
But Robbie has now set the record straight. Under the heading "Robbie And Ayda: Are They Or Aren't They?" on his official website, he wrote: "Hey all. We are not engaged. Rob."
Robbie’s mother had increased speculation surrounding the couple when the news broke by telling BBC Radio’s Five Live that she was "really pleased" for the couple. "I've always wanted a daughter-in-law," she added.
She then went on to sing the praises of Ayda saying: "I'm very excited. I'm really pleased. They've been together for nearly three years, so it's about time.
"She's a great mate, as well as a lover. She's got all the qualities that he needs in a girl. It's a lovely match."
Asked when she thought the wedding would be, Mrs Williams claimed: "I don't think it will be that far in the not-too-distant future, but that's all I'm going to say on that."
Robbie set tongues wagging when he appeared on Australian radio station 2Day FM. Breakfast show host Jackie Henderson told him that Sydney had a reputation for celebrity proposals.
Hee then took it upon himself to declare to 35-year-old Ayda, who was in the studio at the time: "Ayda Field, I love you so much. Do you mind being my betrothed for the end of time?"
She laughingly replied: "I would love to be your betrothed 'til the end of time."
A spokesman for the singer later confirmed it was meant as a joke.
