I Dreamed A Dream sold more than 130,000 copies on Monday- outselling the rest of the week's top five albums combined.
The record for first- week sales is currently held by X Factor winner Leona Lewis whose album Spirit shifted 375,872 in its first week of release two years ago, but the Britain’s Got Talent runner-up look set to top that.
I Dreamed A Dream is also in the running to become the fastest selling album of the year outstripping boyband JLS whose eponymous debut album was released last month, and could yet become one of the best selling albums of the Noughties.
Former church volunteer 48-year old Boyle from West Lothian became an unlikely global superstar when her audition for the show was broadcast on the internet.
Boyle said she had "finally achieved" her dream of releasing an album.
"There is happiness out there for everyone who dares to dream," she said.
Her record company says she will sell a million copies globally by the end of this week.
A source said: "Even we are surprised. It's unprecedented."
I Dreamed A Dream is certain to go into the US album chart at No.1 The album features her audition song , I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables, Julie London torch song Cry Me A River and Madonna’s You’ll See.
An ITV special I Dreamed A Dream – The Susan Boyle Story, which will see the BGT star celebrate her love of music and feature tracks from her debut album will be broadcast next month.
Her debut single, a cover of 1971 Rolling Stones hit Wild Horses, is expected to go into the top 10 on Sunday.
