John and Edward ‘most exciting act in Britain’ says Duran Duran star; ‘rubbish’ says Waterman

Birmingham New Romantics Duran Duran were one of the biggest acts of the 1980s and have sold over 100million records to date and in 2004 received an Outstanding Contribution to music award at the BRITs]

While John and Edward would have to go some to match that success, Le Bon nonetheless believes the twins definitely have The X Factor.

Le Bon said: ‘’They’ve an amazing chance of winning. They are just so different to the rest of the contestants’ and called them ‘the most exciting act in Britain.’

But Pop Idol judge Pete Waterman poured scorn on the duo saying they were a forgettable flash in the pan destined to soon be forgotten.

As one third of production trio Stock, Aitken and Waterman, the pop guru helped launch the careers of Kylie Minogue,  Rick Astley and Jason Donovan- hardly the least manufactured pop stars on the planet.

‘’But he was adamant he said the twins wouldn’t have been long gone had he been one of the judges on the show.

The Pop Idol judge said: ‘’If I’d been on the show I’d have had them off it three weeks ago. The only reason people are watching is that they’re just staring at the screen and thinking, ‘You’ve got to be joking’.

‘’Who’s going to remember John and Edward in two years time?’’

The Duran Duran star isn't the only celeb to back the Grime brothers with Marvin Humes from JLS and Peaches Geldof publicly expressing their support.
