A portrait of singer Amy Winehouse, painted by renowned artist Peter Howson OBE, is going up for auction next week.
The picture – which is a brand new piece from the legendary artist – will go under the hammer at McTear's Scottish Contemporary Art Auction in Glasgow on Tuesday November 10.
It shows the pop star – who has been going through a very public battle to kick an alleged drug addiction over the last year – in a full-on view.
We’re sure Amy – who hit the headlines recently after missing her cue to present a gong at the Q Awards – will love it!
A portrait of the acclaimed Celtic and Scotland manager, Jock Stein, which was completed in 1987, is also going to be up for grabs at the auction. The picture is expected to be one of the most popular pieces on offer.
In addition to that, two recent paintings of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns, will be featured at the auction, as will an exceptionally rare piece of work that was inspired by the artist’s Bosnian experiences.
This latest sale comes just a month after over 250 Howson works – many from his own private collection – were successfully auctioned.
McTear's Director, Brian Clements said: "Peter Howson's position as one of the country's most influential artists was underlined by the phenomenal interest in our October sale which featured the largest collection of Howson works ever to appear in a single auction.
"Howson fans will not be disappointed with our next sale which includes a number of very prominent pieces, including the definitive portrait of legendary Celtic manager, Jock Stein."
Peter Howson – who studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1975-1977 and again between 1979 and 1981 – has become massively popular in the art world.
The current world record for a Howson painting was established in May 2008 when the Three Faces of Eve was sold at an auction for £300,500.
