Tennnant will play a dysfunctional Chicago legal eagle who suffers from panic attacks and has to coach his clients into representing themselves in the NBC hour long pilot.
Tennant, who will be replaced as the 10th Doctor after five years by unknown Matt Smith in the New Year will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of other Brits making it big on the small screen across the pond.
They include Rome and Grey’s Anatomy star Kevin McKidd and fellow Scot Ashley Jensen from Extras and Ugly Betty who is currently starring in CBS sitcom Accidentally On Purpose alongside Dharma and Greg’s Jenna Elfman.
Golden Globe winner Hugh Lawrie, formerly one half of British comedy duo Fry and Lawrie alongside Stephen Fry has become one of the highest paid TV stars in American TV thanks to his star turn as misanthropic, maverick medical diagnostician in Fox medical drama House.
Tennant has been nominated for a BAFTA Scotland award in the male Acting in TV category for his starring role Dr Who, taking on Robert Carlyle for The Unloved and Bill Paterson for Spanish Flu - The Forgotten Fallen.
The awards will take place at Glasgow’s Science Centre this coming Sunday on Sunday 8th November
The Scottish actor who started out in theatre but made his name in TV series Casanova and Blackpool recently spoke of his sadness at having to hang up his sonic screwdriver confessing how he had to keep ‘a stiff upper lip’ after being reduced to ‘alittle bit of a puddle’ shooting his final scenes.
Viewers can see next Tennant in a BBC version of Hamlet over Christmas. He has also landed roles in World War II drama Glorious 39 and the second St Trinians movie: The Legend of Fritton's Gold.
His latest Doctor Who adventure Waters from Mars which is set on the red planet in 2059 and co-stars Lindsay Duncan as Adelaide - the commander of Earth's first off-world colony. will be screened on Nov 15.
He will then take his final bow as the Timelord in two episodes over the Christmas holiday that will see Tennant's Doctor once more pitted against The Master, played by John Simm.
