Scottish actor Gerard Butler says he has a lot to thank his old bosses for after their decision to sack him saw him turn to acting.

Butler, currently starring alongside Jamie Foxx in law Abiding Citizen graduated from law school in his native Glasgow before landing a job as a trainee solicitor.

But with only one week to go before he completed his training bosses cruelly axed him and it was only after turning his back on the law for good 300 hunk decided to try his hand at acting.

The  39- year-old star told Us magazine how the sacking changed his life.
He said: “I was one week away from qualifying as a lawyer, and I was fired… That was the worst day of my life, now it’s the best day of my life.”

After a short lived stage career Butler landed his first film role as Archie Brown in 1997's Mrs. Brown alongside Judi Dench and Billy Connolly and has never looked back since.

As well as 300 his credits include playing The Phantom in the big screen version of The Phantom of The Opera, PS I  Love You with Hilary Swank, Ugly Truth and Gamer

He has also been romantically linked with some of Hollywood’s most glamorous leading ladies including Jessica Simpson and Friends star Jennifer Aniston who he can be seen on screen with next year in The Bounty Hunter. 

The fifth annual Gerard Butler convention will take place in Las Vegas next June. Wonder what Gerry’s old bosses will be doing that day?
