Susan Boyle enraptures Glasgow concert crowd

Susan Boyle was met with rapturous applause as she took to the stage in front of home fans on Monday.

There had been doubts as to whether the now world-famous singer from West Lothian would perform in the Britain's Got Talent live show in Glasgow after pulling out of the event in Manchester.

But the plucky church worker wowed the crowds as she belted out I Dreamed a Dream, the song which made her a global superstar.

Not only did she receive a standing ovation at the end of the performance, the packed concert hall took to their feet as she walked on to stage in a floor-length sparkling dress and twice during her performance, which included Memory from the musical Cats.

Many fans were waving home-made banners, some said "We love you Susan" and "Susan is the best".

One fan, Bryan Felvus, 23, from Motherwell in Lanarkshire, said: "She was brilliant. She had to be here tonight. She was great and deserved every bit of support she got and she got the loudest cheer of the evening."

Another, Audrey Hinde, 39, from Ayrshire said: "I thought she was fantastic. She brought tears to my eyes. She didn't seem under pressure at all."

It was a different scene last night as concert-goers at the Manchester Evening News Arena were greeted at the venue with notices stating that Boyle would not perform at either of the scheduled matinee or evening shows.

Boyle went from a quiet life to global fame after the video of her singing I Dreamed A Dream in her Britain's Got Talent audition was watched hundreds of millions of times on the internet.

But the singer was admitted to the Priory clinic after coming second to dance troupe Diversity in the TV contest broadcast on ITV1 and left five days later.

She dispelled doubts as to whether she would perform in the live tour when she appeared at the opening show in Birmingham on Friday night.

She wowed the crowd with renditions of I Dreamed A Dream from the musical Les Miserables and Memory.

The next day in Sheffield she seemed to stumble over her words as she sang Memory and had provoked a mixed reaction from the audience with several people booing when her name was announced.

But on Monday night, Boyle, from the village of Blackburn, rose to the occasion and once again wowed the crowds.

As one of Susan Boyle's millions of global fans, I'm not surprised that she stunned the crowd once again - she always does. Her lovely, soaring voice reaches us on a level that has never before been achieved.

I would like to set something straight, however. I have seen a video of her Sheffield performance and it was not a "mixed" review. The audience was on their feet cheering as soon as she walked onto the stage and remained that way throughout the entire set. Susan was magnificent, as usual.

She looked absolutely breathtaking, like a jewel shining up there on that stage and held the crowd spellbound.

Susan Boyle has charismatic stage presence - she is magic.

Susan is so unasuming that it's frightening, she takes everything in her stride and if it wasn't for being hounded by the press she would not have needed the priory. Good luck Susan, I have championed you right from the start because what you have is simply a natural talent. I look forward to getting your first album. Love you loads.
