Kate Middleton may have been letting her long locks flow freely at the Olympics, but when it comes to getting glammed up for a special occasion, the darling Duchess has been relying on a chic, yet simple, style to add a touch of elegance to her look – the half up, half down chignon.
Yasmin, creative director at the Rainbow Room salon, George Square Glasgow, has witnessed a rush of customers looking to recreate the style for weddings, proms and parties, proving Kate really is a-head (sorry) of the rest when it comes to fashion.
Kate, or Catherine as she is officially known, showcased the look when she visited Scotland in June as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and although she accompanied the style with a hat, the chic chignon looks equally as eye-catching without any accessories.
But how can you ensure you dazzle like a princess when you don’t have Kate’s budget to run to the salon every time you get your glad rags on?
Let Yasmin show you how, in the video player above.
The hairdresser explained: “All you have to do is take big chunky sections of your hair and wind them around a heated wand to create an S shape wave.”
If you haven’t got your paws on a wonder wand yet, don’t panic, heated rollers will do the same trick.
Yasmin said: “Spray the hair, wind it around the wand, then leave it to set.”
Once you have done this, you run your fingers through your hair then get to work on the chignon – the tricky part, but it’s not as difficult as it looks.
Yasmin shows how you backcomb the top and side sections of your hair and pin back, before twisting two large sections around your fingers to create the double chignon, favoured by Kate. Watch the video and all will be revealed.
Now go forth and create your crowning glory and dazzle like the Duchess at your next summer bash.
