The Duchess of Cambridge may have the privilege of attending some of the most glamorous events in the world, where the finest wines and champagne are on offer, but you will never see Kate, or Catherine as she is officially known, over indulge in the drinks department.

Understandable, what with the eyes of the world scrutinising her every move since she married Prince William last year, but according to reports, Kate has always been extremely careful about how she presents herself in public, knowing where to draw the line on the socialising front.

During a feature on Kate’s journey from student to Duchess, a friend who studied with her at the British Institute in Florence told OK! magazine: “She would like a glass of wine, but couldn’t really handle her drink.

“She’d get giggly and silly after a few glasses, so then would stop. She was never interested in getting really drunk. She would never ever let herself get out of control.”

And this hasn’t changed over the years, with no drunken photographs emerging from Kate’s student days in St Andrews, where she met, and fell in love with, her now husband, Prince William.

The pair were obviously far too busy escaping the public glare, as they fled to the small town of Anstruther for romantic walks and banana boat rides – much more fun than waking up with a hangover!

Even now, Kate is extremely careful about what she drinks, leaving the partying to the Duke of Cambridge, Prince Harry and her younger sister Pippa.

During a belated 30th birthday bash for William at the start of this month, Kate retired to bed at a respectable 1am, while the rest of the guests are said to have carried on enjoying vodka shots till 3.

Prince Harry is no stranger to some of London’s finest nightclubs, while Pippa, well let’s not mention that infamous fancy dress party in Paris at the start of this year…

And Pippa is officially the party princess, working as a party planner and penning a book about how to throw a brilliant bash entitled Celebrate – A Year Of Festivities for Family And Friends.

Kate clearly relishes her role as Duchess and takes her responsibilities extremely seriously, which has delighted the Royal Family, in particular the Queen.

She has shone during her official royal engagements this past year, particularly delighting the crowds when she visited The Brink in Liverpool in February – an alcohol free bar run by Action on Addiction, a charity Kate is a patron of. She was photographed sampling a delicious non-alcoholic cocktail – a recipe she is sure to have taken away with her to try out at home.
