Olympic gold medallist Katherine Grainger delighted staff at STV earlier this week, when she popped in to be guest editor of the website in aid of the STV Appeal.
The rower was one of the golden girls of London 2012, but in a chat with showbiz reporter Laura Boyd, she revealed she had the pleasure of sitting next to another special Catherine at the Games – Kate Middleton.
Katherine joined the Duchess of Cambridge to watch Team GB’s bronze medal hockey match and the girls enjoyed a good old gossip about all things sport.
Keen to see if the Duchess really is as perfect as she looks, Laura asked Katherine to dish the dirt, but she laughed and replied: “Annoyingly there’s not a lot of dirt…
“She is nice, she is lovely. She’s almost better than perfect in that she’s perfect and yet really approachable and really normal.”
Katherine had met Kate earlier in the year when she turned up to watch the Olympic hockey teams in training. Remember seeing the shots of Kate in her red skinny jeans scoring a goal?
Katherine revealed that the Duchess had told her she was relieved that that was the photograph that had emerged, as before that she had been missing goals left, right and centre.
Aha! Not that perfect then, but we’ll let her off.
Scottish sportswoman Katherine admitted that Kate was just as enthusiastic throughout the match as the rest of the crowd and praised her true passion and dedication to the Games, saying: “She was really, really enthusiastic about it. Really proud to be with the British team.”
