Top stand-up Craig Hill is used to travelling the globe for his craft, entertaining the masses with his unique form of comedy, but the Scots born star says he can’t wait to come home this Friday.
East Kilbride-raised Craig is one of the most recognisable faces on the circuit now, and on February 17 scottish fans will get a chance to see him live on stage, when he performs at Cumbernauld Theatre.
Although he’s travelled the world with his shows, Craig has never been to the Lanarkshire town, and says he can’t wait to enterain there.
“I’m very excited because I’ve never been to Cumbernauld before,” he said. “I’ve travelled round on different tours and I like it when I find somewhere I have never been to before.
“But I imagine Cumbernauld to be quite like East Kilbride, where I grew up. They are both new towns in Lanarkshire and the humour will be similar.
“Essentially, it’s Glasgow humour and I think it will be a bit like playing your home town.”
Famed for his camp style, quick wit and sharp tongue, former hairdresser Craig has been on the comedy circuit for 14 years now, and is a firm favourite at the annual Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Now he is looking forward to performing at the more intimate venue. Speaking about what the Cumbernauld audience is in for this Friday, Craig said: “It’s hugely energetic and fun and spontaneous. My shows are always quite off-the-cuff and based on my experiences.
“I have started a little section where I have a laugh about if I could do sign language. I get someone to talk me through their day and I try to sign it – imagine me trying to sign what some of the people tell me they have been up to.
“When you have a really character in the audience it really helps.”
If you’re game for a laugh, you might just find yourself joining Craig on stage this Friday…
The next few weeks will see Craig perform in venues in Newcastle and Cardiff, before the comic jets off for sunnier climes in Australia.
