STV and National Theatre of Scotland present 230 Five Minute Theatre projects on 24 hour live online stream

On Tuesday 21 June, STV audiences are invited to enjoy 24 dramatic hours of theatre performances as part of Five Minute Theatre, a unique online event organised by National Theatre of Scotland to mark the company’s fifth birthday.

A must-see for all fans of theatre and live performance, Five Minute Theatre will run from 5pm on 21 June, which is midsummer's day,  until 5pm the following day, featuring 235 pieces of theatre, each around five minutes long, written, produced and performed by people from all over the world.

STV will make this extraordinary and ambitious event available to its online audience by streaming it live on www.stv.tv/fiveminutetheatre and by hosting all the individual performances on a specially designed micro-site afterwards. They will also be available on the STV Player on You Tube shortly after the event.

The unique broadcast will also be streamed live on www.fiveminutetheatre.com, the website especially created for the project by the National Theatre of Scotland.

STV has been working in partnership with the National Theatre of Scotland to help deliver Five Minute Theatre by providing technical and studio facilities, enabling eight of the successful projects to be performed and recorded at STV’s studio at Pacific Quay in Glasgow.

Robert Dawson Scott, editor of stv.tv said: “This seemed such an ambitious use of the web and so close to some of the things that we do at STV, that we wanted to support the National Theatre of Scotland as they celebrate their fifth year with this exciting endeavour. Between us, we hope to present all the fantastic work that has been done as widely as possible. Happy Birthday!”

Marianne Maxwell, audience development manager, National Theatre of Scotland, commented: “People from all over the world have taken up the challenge to help celebrate the National Theatre of Scotland’s first five dramatic years by writing, devising, directing, performing and producing hundreds of pieces of theatre, all five minutes long. We are thrilled to be working with STV in broadcasting all 235 pieces online and we’re all looking forward to the big day!”
