Dreaming of a Snow White Christmas at the Macrobert panto

The countdown to Christmas has officially started and the Macrobert in Stirling is already getting into the festive swing of things with rehearsals for this year’s pantomime Snow White of the Seven De’Wharffs.

This year’s festive treat is written by, directed by and starring the Macrobert regular Johnny McKnight, who has now performed in the last five macrobert pantomimes, written four and directed two.

Johnny is a well-loved favourite at Christmas time at macrobert, with some local panto fans calling him ‘Stirling’s own special panto dame’. After seeing his pantomimes many agree with one journalist who wrote: ‘they don’t come more gifted than Johnny McKnight’.

As well as Johnny this year’s production will be performed by a professional cast of six and includes 32 young performers from Macrobert youth groups and the central area.

Bringing this famous fairytale to the stage are Nanny Maria Shut-Yon-Trapp played by Johnny himself, Felicia the Fox played by Michele Gallagher (who was Queen Toshita in last year’s Sleeping Beauty) and Swanky is played by Ross Allan (who was the Jester in Sleeping Beauty).

The aisles will be filled with the sound of music this Christmas as this unconventional version of Snow White is an amalgamation of Snow White and The Sound of Music.

Set in “Stirling Stella”, Snow White of the Seven De’Wharffs tells the story of Baroness Fantasia De’Wharff who needs a nanny to control her seven unruly step-children, particularly the rather wild Snow White.

Cue Nanny Maria Shut-Yon-Trapp who wants to fill the pantosphere with her own Sound Of Music.

Of course, no panto would be complete without a handsome prince and in this production he comes in the form of Prince Rupert Charming-Darling who is on the lookout for a bit of arm candy.

Snow White of the Seven De’Wharffs promises to be a show with plenty of tongue-in-cheek suspense, side-spitting laughter and a soundtrack full of Christmas guilty pleasures. You’ll be singing along all the way home.

Snow White of the Seven De’Wharffs commences on Wednesday 24 November and runs until Wednesday 5 January 2011. The full diary of dates and times can be found on the Macrobert website.
