With Dutch Duo Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano making their Arches debut at Colours 17th Birthday Party it was the perfect opportunity for STV Clubs to have a chat with them.
Since the release of debut track ‘Pina’ in May 2008, these two energetic and talented DJs have went from strength to strength, entertaining crowds the world over. Axwell has been quoted saying ‘If ever there was a Dutch division of Swedish House Mafia it would be these two’ and we have to say we agree!
We were lucky enough to sit down with them right before their set….
Have you played in Scotland before?
SJ: Yes we played Coloursfest last year, so we know you guys are crazy for your music! We’ve been told the Arches crowd is wild so we’re so excited to be playing here tonight.
Are you familiar with our famous (or infamous!) clubbing chant then?
Both: Oh yes ‘here we, here we, here we, here we ****ing go!’ We love it!
(I must admit I struggled to concentrate after that outburst!)
The Miami Music Conference and the accompanying events are looming next month, what are your plans?
SJ: There are lots we want to do and see so we need to plan it out. We’ll definitely be at Ultra though.
We’re also playing a very special DJ football match with some of the guys; it’s going to be the Dutch v the Swedes. Tiesto is sorting out our team and Sebastian Ingrosso is setting up the Swedish team. It’s going to be awesome! We’re so ready for it.
RM: We can’t forget the beach; we got to spend some time hanging out there!
To quote SHM, ‘from Miami to Ibiza’, have you thought about your white isle plans this summer or is it too early to reveal? (We don’t think it’s ever too early to talk about Ibiza!)
RM: We are working on that at the moment but it’s too early for us to say anything.
SJ: Keep checking our twitter and facebook as we’ll get it out there as soon as we can! We’re addicted to twitter, it’s our lifeline!
Looking back to 2011, what was your highlight?
RM: Definitely the remix of Tiesto’s Lethal Industry. Without a doubt! We were so pleased about that.
How did that come about?
SJ: We played about with it in the studio and once we were happy we sent it to Tiesto, and to our delight he approved it for release. This is the first time he’s approved an official remake of one of his productions so we are very honoured.
Most recently you’ve released a remix of Ferry Corsten's "Ain't No Stoppin", how’s it being received?
SJ: Crazy! People are going nuts for it which is wonderful to see.
RM: You can pretty much guarantee we’ll play that tonight!
You played at Laidback Luke's Super Me and You NYE Party at Pacha New York – how was that? What did you dress up as?
RM: We were DJing at the MTV Party at Times Square first, which was unreal! We then jumped on over to Pacha later on in the night and took over from Luke. We were dressed up as The Blues Brother and we got a great reaction from that.
SJ: Great way to start 2012! Times Square was crazy and we always love going to Pacha New York.
What can we expect from your set tonight?
RM: We just want to have lots of fun with you guys, we’ll have you dancing and singing to some older stuff and make sure we fling in some recent anthems. We love what we do and we’re excited to see what the Arches is like, so many of our DJ friends say this place is great.
Lastly, we asked this to Sander Van Doorn too, if you could buy Colours a birthday present for tonight what would it be?
SJ: Man that is a tough question, Ryan you are better at these kind of questions…no pressure!
RM: (After a good hard think) Yoga lessons, definitely yoga lessons. It will help them chill out. I think that’s a good present.
After the interview we excitedly took our spot in the dance arch for our new friends to hit the decks and we can confirm that Sunnery and Ryan did not disappoint, throwing out huge amounts of energy to the crowd with tune after tune. You can read our review of the night here.
