A one-off tour, 20 years in the making. After years of requests, Fergie is finally putting together the finishing touches to the tour that we’ve all been waiting for. Colours are very proud to host the only Scottish date of this very special tour and they hope that you will be there to celebrate this legendary DJ's 20-year career....
Hi Fergie, Thanks for taking the time out to talk to STV Clubs... How are things with you?
Things are great. Im just back from the good old U.S of A so i'm still in a bit of a weird time zone at the minute.
On Saturday 3rd December you are playing a very big gig.... 20 years in the making, 'The Are You All Ready Tour' at the mighty Arches in Glasgow?
Its going to be very big indeed! I first played in The Arches in 1997. Its been a major part of what i've achieved over my whole career. I think I'm the only DJ ever to play Inside Out, Colours and Pressure. For those that dont know they are nights that are held there every month, and if you play at one you are not allowed to play at the other. So i've been quite lucky that i've been able to play for all 3.
You've lived in Glasgow for a long time now... At the gig you are going to be supported by a few of your friends?
Basically i've picked a couple of friends to play the night one being Ivan Latta or Big driven Ivan as he is known to his friends! I actually met Ivan about 10 years ago in Space, Ibiza. I just remember this guy screaming 'Go on Fergie Boy' in this mad Scottish accent going crazy on the dancefloor for my whole set. He was shouting at me all night and hung about at the end so i met him. We've been friends ever since. He used to drive me to my gigs in Glasgow and around Scotland so this is a big deal for him to play at The Arches.
This will be a very special gig in Glasgow for a number of reasons. You've also decided to rebrand yourself as Rob Guson and move to Las Vegas in the New Year. Where did this come about?
It's probably going to be my last gig in Glasgow for quite some time. Everything i do, i do from the heart. I do everything with 150% focus on it, from when i started DJing on the hard house to when i changed and went down the techno route. This time im going to change again. Fergie will still continue to do gigs, but the Rob Guson thing is me opening things up to a wider audience, taking all the aspects of what i've learned over my whole DJ career and taking it to a new territory. Although i have been playing over in the states since about 1998 but i've always played as Fergie. So now i want to freshen things up a little bit with a new name and a new outlook on music.
It's a new chapter in your career which has spanned 20 years, whats planned for when you move to America?
I've lots of stuff planned in America so far, I wouldn't be going there to go and wing it. The first gig for Rob Guson is with Deadmau5 on NYE in New York. That's the first gig which shows im really going for it. I've a residency that starts at Pure in Las Vegas, its one of the biggest spots there at the minute aswell as Wet Republic. I'm also a resident in Atlantis City.
Wow thats some gig! Did you ever think you would be doing this all those years ago?
I think the reason why i have been able to keep going with it is the hunger. For me the hunger is there more than it ever was. People have mixed opinions about how i went from one style of music then changed and moved onto the next thing. I can appreciate why some people like it and some people dont which is fine, but when i do change thngs its with 100% commitment. The scene is probably the best it has ever been. The world is such a small place now, i've just counted my flights for December and its 32!
Thats pretty busy! Where are all the other gigs taking place in December?
Well the first one is at The Arches, then the week after i've a few gigs in Russia. Then after that im in Wales, Mexico, Sofia, Manchester, Boxing Day in Northern Ireland and 27th December I'm in Dundee. Then I'm off to New York for NYE and then off to Thailand for the full moon parties. So yeah pretty boring! (laughs)
Fergie its been great speaking to you... See you at The Arches on Saturday 3rd December!
Nice to talk to you as always, see you there! What about you!? (laughs)
