Extend the weekend with Instruments of Rapture

A new Glasgow club night is aiming to bring the buzz back to Sundays by filling the Optimo-shaped hole in the city's music scene.

City based label, Instruments of Rapture are set to present “Part one” this Sunday – the first night of a monthly residency.

Featuring the talented trio of Graeme Clark (The Revenge, OOFT, Sixth Borough Project) Ali Heron (OOFT) and Craig Smith (Sixth Borough Project) the new Sunday night addition promises to offer an eclectic excuse for clubbers to extend their weekend.

Having first began working together over a decade ago in various guises, "Part one" will be the first “proper” time that the trio will have played together.

For Graeme, 32, this Sunday will be a chance to place some musical roots down in the city he calls home having spent the last year touring the far corners of the world under his Revenge moniker.

He said: “This residency will bring together all the work we have been putting into the label over the last few years.

“Myself and Craig have been releasing re-edits for the last while as the Sixth Borough Project and I’ve been working with Ali in different guises for a long time, but strangely we have never thought to put on a night together.

“It has kind of happened by accident. We were all asked to play at an after party last year and it just seemed to click. Because we have all been releasing tracks on the Instruments of Rapture label, we knew each other’s musical tastes so well that there was no real pressure on us and as a result, that party was amazing.

“Now, we want to take the focus away from the label as it is and re-direct it towards the club night.

Graeme explained how the close friends wanted to create a night that was both eclectic and accessible to everyone, mixing underground disco with elements of house.

Billed as a “house party in the sub club”, the group will follow the Sunday night residency with the release of parts “Nine” and “Ten” -  the final two releases from the label.

Ali, 30, who has been DJ-ing for around 12 years across Glasgow, explained that he hopes the new night will tempt more people to consider Sunday as part of their weekend.

He said: “I’m hopeful that the club as a whole will be reflective of the sort of atmosphere and vibe that we have in the label.

“From a punter point of view, we don’t want people walking in and thinking it is some sort of exclusive night club. We are trying to get back to the idea that people know there is a good place to be on a Sunday night.

“That was something that Optimo had – it became known as the place to go if you were out on a Sunday and that’s what we aspire to.

“We are all experienced DJs and we know how to play music with each other and for me, the ideal goal is to put on a night that is a legitimate part of everybody’s weekend.”

Instruments of Rapture: Part One starts this Sunday, September, 3 at Glasgow’s Sub Club. Tickets cost £5 and are available on the door. Doors open at 11pm
