Digital Love presents Example & DJ Wire at the Forum, Aberdeen
Chart-topping rapper Example has become the first act to confirm a performance in Aberdeen following the cancellation of the Northern Lights festival.
The London-born artist will arrive in the Granite City to play for Digital Love in the Forum bar on Saturday, July 30, along with DJ Wire – the same night the duo were supposed to play at Seaton Park.
Example’s presence is a major coup for the city after his latest single, Changed The Way You Kiss Me, reached the top spot in the UK chart just two weeks ago.
Russell Aitchison from Digital Love, who is organising the gig in the wake of the festival's cancellation, said he was delighted with the news.
He said: “It’s a really exciting gig for us.
“A name like Example coming to a city the size of Aberdeen is amazing. Music-wise Aberdeen is nothing like Glasgow or Edinburgh, so hopefully we can get it back on the map.
“It’s a different direction of music for us, but it was too good an opportunity to turn down.
“At the moment he’s at his peak and absolutely massive, so there couldn’t have been a better time to get him.”
Mr Aitchison praised Example’s commitment to playing in Aberdeen and said it would come as some consolation to all the music fans who were left disappointed by the festival’s demise.
He added: “It’s great that we’ve still got an act this size coming to Aberdeen.
“It was a shame about what happened to the Northern Lights, but if the whole of Aberdeen can get together you never know what could happen in future.
“A lot of people put a lot of work into it, and with the names involved it should have sold out on day one.”
Supporting Example at The Forum is Aberdeen's finest Stu Isles, Gaz Sullivan and the always brilliant Loca.
Tickets available from One Up Records on Belmont Street. Early bird £15 until 20th July, £20 thereafter.
