The 'Spider-Man' musical will debut on Broadway next year.
'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' features music and lyrics written by U2 stars Bono and The Edge and will open in the New York theatre district from February 18, with previews starting from January 16.
The musical extravaganza is set to be the most expensive production in Broadway history, with total costs expected to exceed $40 million.
It will be helmed by 'The Lion King' director Julie Taymor and will have a weekly running cost of up to $1 million - most of which will go on costume and fight designers.
A source said: "Julie doesn't care what it costs - does not care at all! Her attitude is, it's for the art, and you don't question artists."
Sources say the budget may have to drop to $35 million, but the show would still have to run successfully for 8,000 years to break even.
Actor Jim Sturgess is said to be involved in the production but it is not known who will play web slinging superhero Spider-Man and his alter-ego Peter Parker.
