Wet Wet Wet talk excitement ahead of Glasgow Green gig

Scottish rockers Wet Wet Wet have revealed just how excited they are to get back up on stage tonight at a special gig at Glasgow Green to mark their 25th anniversary as a band.

The rock/pop group, made up of Marti Pellow, Tommy Cunningham, Graeme Clark and Neil Mitchell, will perform on stage at their their Back In The Park 25th anniversary tonight, in front of excited fans who have waited years to see the boys together again.

The last time they performed there was back in 1989, 23 years ago, so it's been a long time coming - and lead singer Marti says the band can't wait for the reunion.

“I think when you’ve got songs that you’re airing for the first time you should have nerves, but when you’re bringing out hit records, and number one songs, and top ten records, and a catalogue what was so successful with the public, that’s good you’ve got good songs to fall back on.”

Demand was so high for the gig that organisers soon increased capacity, giving more fans the chance to snap up tickets to see the group tonight.

And yesterday some die-hard followers of the group got the chance to see the guys in rehearsals for their gig tonight.

It was a good practice run and gave the guys the chance to get a feel for what the atmosphere at tonight’s Glasgow Green concert might be like.

Neil said: “It was really good to start off again in front of an audience, all be it smaller than Friday night… “

He added: “They made a big noise for so few people!”

It's Wet Wet Wet's first gig together in five years, but the boys soon found that once they were back on stage together they were soon falling back into their old routines.

Tommy explained: “There were little things we used to do on tour, little moments that happened over the yeas almost like a language that was learned and we’d forgotten about all of that. And it’s come sweeping back like a wave over the last couple of days.”

He added: “When we all get on stage together I feel very safe. Nervous, yes, but as Marti says when you a hit a chord, the first chord of the song, the crowd explodes.”

We’ll be they do tonight too. Gates open for the Wet Wet Wet concert at Glasgow Green at 5pm tonight. Support includes sets from James Walsh of Starsailor, Red Sky July and Raintown.
