Cher Lloyd will be feeling Xtra smug today after learning that her debut US single, Want U Back, is sitting at number 7 in the American iTunes chart.

Following on from the success of her fellow X Factor buddies One Direction, boyband The Wanted and yummy-mummy-to-be Adele, who have all wowed the American crowds, Cher is the latest British export to cause waves across the pond.

The 18-year-old told Digital Spy: "I'm so excited by everything that is going on!

"I've been touring US radio stations for quite a while now, and it's been fantastic to get out and see so much of America. There's still lots of hard work to do though!"

Cher is also at number 27 in the Billboard Hot 100 – not bad for a little lady who was fourth in the X Factor back in 2010.

Wonder what Cheryl Cole thinks of her one-time protégé’s US success?

The pair famously no longer get on, after Cher spoke out about Cheryl’s lack of contact since X.

The feisty singer stuck the boot in a little further when she appeared to criticise Cheryl for miming during her performances.

When asked whether she would ever perform a duet with her former mentor during a radio interview earlier this year, Cher said: "Maybe, if she'd sing live with me."

And when questioned if the prospect of singing live could be a difficult one for the 'Promise This' singer, Cher replied: "Well it is nowadays, when you haven't got the nifty little button to press!"

The presenter then asked if she was talking about autotune, to which she laughed and sarcastically replied: "What, oh no? Never, never ever!" Touché!

Cher may no longer have Chezza on speed dial but she’s found a famous fan in American celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

During an interview in Star magazine this week, the flamboyant star was asked why it is so hard for Cher Lloyd of Cheryl Cole to break the US.

He replied: “I don’t think it’s that hard for Cher Lloyd. She is already building an amazing fan base over there. Cher Cole hasn’t even tried. She hasn’t released a single or been promoted.”
