Move over One Direction and Adele: Emeli Sande set to wow America

Fresh from storming the UK charts and winning a host of awards, Scotland’s hottest singing star, Emeli Sande, is set to be the next Brit to make her mark across the pond.

Following in the footsteps of acts like Adele, The Wanted and One Direction, who have topped the US charts, Emeli has been winning rave reviews from American critics.

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton wrote: “Quite comparable to Adele, British songstress Emeli Sandé is a SUPER talented 24 year old who packs on the soul with each and every track!!!”

US business magazine Bloomberg said: “Adele, Aretha get upstaged as Emeli Sande plans invasion”.

Emeli, from Alford in Aberdeen, told the Daily Record: “We started very slow in America. It was small acoustic shows. We played places like Los Angeles, New York and Chicago and everywhere there has been a great reaction. It has been really lovely. They listen to the lyrics and the melody over there and the reaction has been fantastic.

“It is a good feeling and it feels like it is bubbling. It is a good time to come to America.”

After touring with her own show in the States, Emeli is set to perform some of her biggest gigs yet, as she supports Coldplay on their American stadium tour.

Cracking America would be the icing on the cake for the incredibly talented 23-year-old, who earlier this year scooped the coveted Critics' Choice award at the BRITs.

She said: “To win a BRIT Award so early in my career is beyond a dream come true. I am overwhelmed to be the recipient of such a prestigious award."

The striking star, who first hit the music scene when she collaborated with rapper Chipmunk on Diamond Rings, has seen her career rocket in the past year.

Hits Heaven and Read All About It - on which she teamed up with Professor Green - brought great success in the UK charts, reaching number two and number one respectively.

Emeli is also a talented writer and has penned tracks for some of the biggest names in music, including Cheryl Cole and fellow Scot Susan Boyle.
