Exclusive interview with rising star Karima Francis

Glasgow’s SWG3 warehouse was awash with Amy Macdonald fans on Tuesday night, as they braved the rain to watch the Scottish singer songwriter complete her fifth and final gig in aid of the STV Appeal.

While they were in for a treat when Amy took to the stage, there was a pleasant surprise in store when support act Karima Francis came on to showcase her latest tracks.

You may not have heard of Karima yet, but she is definitely the singer/songwriter to watch this year.

With her unique style and incredibly powerful yet beautiful voice, there is something completely mesmerising about watching this young lady, who hails from Blackpool, perform.

Describing her music, she said: “It’s kind of acoustic based. It’s got melodic choruses and it’s just kind of honest, it’s very honest music.”

Karima, like most musicians, loves playing in Scotland and she was particularly delighted when she saw her name in lights outside the ABC Glasgow!

With a few festival slots in the pipeline, Karima is most excited about opening the stage at Hyde Park for Hard Rock Calling, starring Paul Simon – one of her favourite artists.

She told stv.tv reporter Laura Boyd: “I’m not nervous at all, I’m just honoured absolutely honoured.”
