Matt Cardle is one of the nicest men in pop and despite winning X Factor 2010 and going on to enjoy success, he remains as down-to-earth as ever, desperate to stay true to the music he loves.
Today he revealed he is no longer with Columbia records, but will be back with a big announcement in the coming weeks.
Matt Tweeted: "I have parted ways with Columbia records, we were heading in different directions, big news coming soon... So excited!"
Following a stunning acoustic performance at the Young Scot Awards in Glasgow earlier this month, Matt returned to Scotland for his second year performing at pop festival In:Demand Live.
Although a little jetlagged after flying in from LA, he said: “It’s always a great vibe down here. the Scots know how to give it large. You’ve been great to us up here and I love coming back.”
Matt has been recording his second album in the US. He explained: “We were there for just over a month writing the second album but we had the opportunity to work with some amazing writers and producers out in LA.”
And while he puts the finishing touches to his record, he will be doing the rounds of festivals this summer, flying all over the world to perform.
But he’s not the only X Factor graduate to be enjoying success at the moment…
2010’s show produced a wealth of talent, perhaps none more famous than One Direction.
Matt built up a close bond with the lads, in particular Harry Styles, who was infamously caught on camera telling him to think of the erm, ladies, when he won.
We should have known then that boy was going to break hearts!
Clearly delighted for his friends’ global success, Matt said: “I still speak to the boys from 1D when they’re not jet setting around the world, bless them. It’s amazing. I think it was a given. I think a few people saw them coming to when they got on the show and I’m super proud of them.”
Matt added: “Aiden’s (Grimshaw) releasing now and Rebecca’s (Ferguson) done so well. I bumped into Cher (Lloyd) in LA and Olly (Murs) on the way back – we were all in the same carriage.” What a talented flight. Watch our full interview with Matt in the player above.
