Conor Maynard is the man-of-the-moment after kicking off his career with infectious hit Can’t Say No.
When we heard he was playing at In:Demand Live, we just couldn’t say no to a quick catch-up with the talented teen.
Performing at the pop festival at Glasgow’s SECC, alongside a list of impressive acts including The Saturdays, Alexandra Burke, Matt Cardle, Marcus Collins, Professor Green and many more, Conor said: “At first I was told I was doing it and I saw the line-up and I was like ‘am I considered amongst those people?’”
Yes you are Conor, and judging by the crowds of screaming girls who queued up outside the interview room to catch a glimpse of the star, it’s safe to say he could give One Direction a run for their money in the heartthrob stakes.
But what does he think of the lads? Conor revealed he met Louis Tomlinson at a race track recently and the pair have remained friends ever since.
He said: “It’s really cool cause he’s a bit further on and it was cool to speak to him and get advice.”
Conor also hinted that he would love to join the 1D lads on tour, but said: “They would have to ask me first.” Get asking boys – that would make a lot of young ladies very happy.
Aside from One Direction, Conor has been dubbed the UK’s answer to Justin Bieber, and while he appreciates the sentiment, he was keen to stress he’s quite different from the floppy-haired Canadian.
He told STV’s Laura Boyd: "It’s flattering to be compared to someone who is so massive but I feel that comparison really only goes as far as the fact we’re both young, we were both found on YouTube.
“I think in terms of the sound we’re both producing, when you hear the finished album, you’ll realise it’s a different thing and obviously I’ve got British influences in there.”
Speaking of the album, Conor has been working on his debut record in New York and is set to return this week to finish working on his hotly anticipated tracks.
Although his dream would be to work on a single with Drake, Conor once again reiterated that he would love to perform with Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle. Maybe at next year’s In:Demand Conor…
