The lads from Dundee were at Cottiers to showcase material from their upcoming album – and it was the first time that they would be playing some of the new songs live.
We caught up with Kyle Falconer and Kieren Webster from the group beforehand as they were gearing up for the gig – and they revealed some details about Cheeky For A Reason, which is set for release on July 2.
Of the new album, Kieren told us: “We recorded it in Liverpool at The Motor Museum with Mike Crossey.”
Kyle said: “It’s not too much different. What I was saying earlier on is that we didn’t ever want to reinvent anything.
“It’s slightly different from what we’ve done before – we rehearsed a lot more for it.
“It used to be about getting the party atmosphere ready, and getting the time to record, but [this time] we got everything perfect, and banged the tunes down.”
He revealed of their reason for making sure they were as well rehearsed as possible: “It was a bit soul-destroying, because we went in ready to go, and the producer was like ‘you’re not ready to go yet’, so we got put back to the rehearsal room for six weeks, and we were like ‘Ah, what!’
“We’ll ken not to do that again. It’s good to be well rehearsed and that – just a good lesson for you, ken?”
Kieren also explained that they stayed away from the strings on this record, focusing instruments that they’ll use on tour, before the boys also told us about their lyrical inspiration for the new album – and how they feel to be hitting the road again.
