Scottish summer music festival Wickerman has today unveiled its line-up, with New York’s Scissor Sisters and Scottish stars Texas topping the bill.
This year’s event takes place on Friday July 20 and Saturday 21 in Dumfries and Galloway, with The View, Levellers, Newton Faulkner, Cast, Kassidy, Bis, Dog is Dead, Duke Special and and Mike Skinner (DJ Set) also all confirmed.
One of the main draws will undoubtedly be New York’s Scissor Sisters, the group set to debut material from their eagerly anticipated new album.
Front man Jake Shears said: “We are so excited to play at Wickerman Festival this year.
“The UK has always been our spiritual home, and Scotland has especially proven to be some of the best audiences we have ever experienced - and with all the great hype we have heard about Wickerman, it is sure to be a great show!”
Meanwhile Scottish group Texas will be sure to get the crowd going with a strong back catalogue of hits.
Sharleen Spiteri said: “We're delighted to be playing our only Scottish festival performance of the summer at Wickerman.
“It will be a first for Texas but we've heard so much about the great festival atmosphere and friendly Wickerman crowds and we’ll be making it a show to remember with a mix of our classic hits and some new material. We look forward to seeing our fans there for a great weekend.”
Folk rock heroes Levellers, Britpop icons Cast, Scottish indie rockers Bis, five-piece indie pop band Dog is Dead and American songstress Jenny O will also take to the stage on the first full day of the festival on Friday July 20.
Now in its 11th year, the festival will once again come to a climax with the legendary Saturday night lighting of the Wickerman: followed this year by a DJ set from Mike Skinner – with organisers promising to keep the Wickerman party stoked into the wee small hours.
Championing up-and-coming Scottish music in its Solus Tent, the bill this year includesMalcolm Middleton’s instrumental band Human Don’t Be Angry, United Fruit, Anderson McGinty Webster Ward and Fisher and Beerjacket.
Catering for every music taste, Skiddle’s Bass Camp tent entitled ‘2012 – A Bass Odyssey’ has a line-up of DJs including BBC Radio 1’s ‘In New DJs We Trust’ Jordan Suckley, Yousef, Kryder, D.O.D and ex-Coronation Street star Graeme Hawley.
Wickerman Festival coordinator Helen Chalmers said: “We are incredibly excited to be unveiling this year’s line-up which is classic Wickerman – an eclectic mix of established, emerging and retro artists that will deliver some fantastic performances across the two days of the festival.
“From Texas stirring the Summerisle crowd into a sing-a-long frenzy with their incredible set of hits, to the fun and infectious energy of the Scissor Sisters or the very best new talent in the Solus Tent – Wickerman offers two days of fantastic music for all tastes and ages, all blended with our relaxed, fun, friendly festival atmosphere.’
