We talked to T in the Park festival director Geoff Ellis and George Kyle, head of sponsorship for Tennent’s Lager about the 2012 event – which launch its line-up today including headliners Snow Patrol, Kasabian and The Stone Roses, as well as other Scottish acts including Emeli Sandé and Calvin Harris. (Find out all the bands announced here.)

Geoff told us: “It’s great to be back, it’s a great stage of the campaign for T in the Park, the launch, and again launching with an incredible line-up. I believe we’re absolutely integral to the event, being a founding partner back to 1994.

“Almost 20 years later you’ve got an event that is on a par with anything on the planet, showing Scotland in the most positive light – and that’s a fantastic thing to be a part of.”

So what about T-Break, which has helped bands including Biffy Clyro, Snow Patrol and The View? Biffy have said of the event: “T in the Park plays an important role in the development of the Scottish music scene and with the T-Break Stage. We know through experience how important that is.”

George told us about the support of one of this year’s headliners: “Snow Patrol have been a T-Break band, been a great supporter of T-Break. We did some showcases in King Tut’s and Gary Lightbody came along and supported – and that’s a great inspiration for the bands.

“It’s a fabulous platform for recognising and reflecting the depth of unsigned talent in Scotland, which is a great thing. They get to network, they get some great advice, great profile, and they get to play at one of the best stages at one of the best festivals in the world.”

He added: “We’ve extended it, we’ve worked with Stow College in terms of offering a music internship as well. Working with T-Break and DF itself, Stow College, Radio Magnetic and Chem 19, a discounted recording studio space, it’s just a way of putting something back which is as much about reflecting that talent in Scotland and it’s great to give it a platform.”

Geoff also talked to us about how T in the Park is now selling more tickets in Scotland than ever before, and talked about Citizen T: “It basically encourages people to look after themselves and to look after each other, and also behave in a way you want to see other people behave.”

He also discussed the Healthy T area which has been a “phenomenal success”, with its producers now having been booked for other festivals after being given their break at T in the Park – making them another great export from Scotland’s largest music festival.
