Last night, Adele won two awards at the BRITs – British Female Solo Artist and the coveted title of Mastercard British Album of the Year.
As the star took to the stage to accept the album award, she was clearly extremely emotional as she said: “Thank you so much, thank you, thank you very, very much.
“Nothing beats coming home with six Grammys and then coming to the Brits and winning album of the year.
“I'm so proud to be flying the British flag for all of you.”
Before she had the chance to thank anyone, her moment of glory was cut short by host James Corden, who was forced to hurry the star along so Blur could take to the stage for their grand finale performance.
Clearly embarrassed by the situation, James said: “I'm so sorry, can I just cut off?”
Adele replied: “Are you about to cut me off? Can I just say then, goodbye and I'll see you next time round.” She then stuck her middle finger up at crowd – a move she later said was aimed at “the suits at the BRIT Awards, not her fans.”
Now ITV have issued a statement apologising saying: "The BRITs is a live event. Unfortunately the programme was over running and we had to move on. We would like to apologise to Adele for the interruption."
A BRITs spokesman followed ITV's statement with: "We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short this evening due to the live show over-running. We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her."
