BRIT Awards 2012: Adele wins Mastercard British Album of the Year Adele rounded off the BRIT Awards 2012 in style, taking the gong for Mastercard British Album of the Year for her record-breaking 21.

George Michael, who received a standing ovation, presented the star with the award, announcing: “I’d just like to say I’ve been asked to come to this event for the 17 years, but I happened to know who’s going to win this one so I came back from Australia.”

As the crowd went wild, an emotional Adele fought back the tears and said: “Thank you very, very much. Nothing is better than coming home with six Grammies and winning Album of the Year. Nothing makes me prouder than to be British.”

She didn’t have time to say much more as host James Corden was forced to hurry her along to make way for Blur’s performance… oh well, back to the table to celebrate the win with her new man, BFF Alan Carr and, erm, Ricky from EastEnders?!

Adele also took the award for British Female Solo Artist at the BRITs, but lost out on the title of British Single to X Factor heartthrobs One Direction.

She delivered a stunning performance of Rolling in the Deep, showcasing why she is worthy of the global success and the six Grammies she landed earlier this month.

The stunning star recently announced she was planning a five year break from the music industry to concentrate on her love-life, but fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as she later posted on her blog: “I’ve a few days off now, and then it’s the BRIT Awards here at home and then I’m straight into the studio. BOYYAHH! 5 years? More like 5 days!” Phew.

Earlier in the night, Adele had the crowd laughing as she accepted her Female Solo Artist gong from Kylie Minogue and said: “I look like a drag queen next to you!”

Quite the contrary, the 23 year old was glowing in a flowing black gown with her newly blonde bouncy locks. Being in love obviously suits her…

Ed Sheeran also took two awards on the night, winning British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act.

So after she wins 6 Grammies and 2 Brits, ITV dis-rspect her by cutting her short. Disgraceful, you should be ashamed.
