A delighted Ed Sheeran has been announced as the winner of this year’s BRIT Award for British Breakthrough Act.
It was Ed’s second win of the night, and he was clearly overwhelmed as he rushed up on stage to accept the gong off of Nicole Scherzinger and Seb Fabregas.
He told the audience: “Em, yeah, thanks…” before thanking everyone for voting. He then added: "I forgot to thank one person last time and that’s my manager Stuart Camp, he’s the person who took me form a spotty, chubby, ginger teenage to up here tonight. So Stuart, lots of love, and you need a new sofa.” Charming!
It’s no surprise that 21-year-old Ed managed to beat off stiff competition from fellow acts including Anna Calvi, Emeli Sande, Jessie J and The Vaccines after the 12 months he has had.
Ed found success after releasing his debut single The A Team in 2011, and hasn’t looked back since.
Ed was been nominated for no less than four gongs at this year’s BRIT Awards – Best British Single, Mastercard British Album of the Year, British Male Solo Artist, as well as British Breakthrough Act.
Earlier in the night he picked up the gong for British Male Solo Artist.
Ed’s fans include Sir Elton John, who Ed says is “very passionate” about his music.
