Coldplay has won best British Group at the BRIT Awards 2012 – an incredible achievement for the much loved rockers who now have 7 BRITs under their belts.
The group opened tonight’s glittering ceremony at the O2 Arena with a rousing rendition of new single Charlie Brown, complete with fireworks, showcasing why they are still one of the leading and most successful acts in the country, if not world.
The band took to the stage in paint splattered t-shirts, thanking Radio 2 listeners in particular for their support.
Chris Martin added: “We are so happy to get this award so thank you to everyone who voted for us, have a great night.”
Formed in 1996, Martin and the band have gone on to sell over 50 million albums worldwide.
In October last year, they released their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, which was once again praised by fans and critics alike.
They embarked on a spectacular tour, with Cheryl Cole recently attending a gig in LA and Tweeting: “They're on FIRE ! .. #legends.”
The group also performed on The X Factor final 2011, and are an inspiration to up-and-coming and established musicians across the land.
