Florence Welch views the BRIT Awards as like a "stage musical".

The Florence And The Machine singer - who scooped the Critics' Choice Award in 2009 and Best Album for 'Lungs' in 2010 - will perform at tonight's (21.02.12) ceremony, where she is nominated for Best Female and Best Album, and says she can only "process" the scale of the event by thinking of it as a theatre production.

She said: "It always feels to me that the BRITs is a great British musical. It felt like that the last time we performed [in 2010] - everyone's running around backstage, half-dressed.

"Gaga's going in one room, Dizzee's in another, Lily [Allen] is coming out of that one, and there was me in some funny brocade dressing gown, barefoot, chatting to everyone.

"It does have that sense of a celebration. I guess I think about it in that way to help myself process it. I understand musicals."

Florence will perform latest single 'No Light, No Light' at this year's ceremony and has promised her performance will be in "celebration" of her critically-acclaimed recent album 'Ceremonials'.

She added in an interview with the Independent newspaper: "It's going to be a celebration of this album. And of coming back to the BRITs with a record that I'm really, really proud of. We haven't really done any big UK TV stuff for this record - or anywhere for that matter. So this will be the first time we get to create something around this record. That's quite exciting. And it's very nice to be invited back."

The BRIT Awards 2012 will air live on ITV1 tonight.
