Washington Irvings' story began on the night of the 29th of February 2008 in a small basement flat in the west end of Glasgow.
Blending together elements of the Arcade Fire, the Band, the Waterboys and the Pogues, the raucous folk pop have enjoyed a steady rise since then, in 2010 releasing debut EP Little Wanderer, Head Thee Home.
Last April they completed their first UK tour to coincide with single Abbey Gallop, before festival appearances at the likes of Camp Bestival and Knoydart, and a headline slot at Scotland’s purposely intimate and perfectly formed Insider Festival.
Having just played with Mull Historical Society at Celtic Connections, the band have been confirmed for the Hebridean Celtic Festival, Kelburn Garden Party and Brew at the Bog Festival.
To celebrate their “first” birthday this leap year, Washington Irving are performing at Glasgow’s Flat 0/1 on Wednesday 29th of February, joined by some “very special guests”.
There the group will be playing some brand new songs before they head in to the studio to record their debut album.
This performance of Holy Company was filmed by GUST (Glasgow University Student Television), and will form part of their documentary about Glasgow and its music scene. To find out more about GUST visit gust.tv.
