Emeli Sande talks BRITs excitement, debut album and love for Aberdeen Emeli Sande looks set to celebrate success this weekend as her debut album, Our Version Of Events, heads towards the number one spot in the charts.

The Scottish singer-songwriter has taken the world by storm in the past few years, enjoying successful collaborations with Chipmunk and Professor Green, not to mention penning songs for the likes of Cheryl Cole and Susan Boyle, to name but a few.

Now she is going it alone and although a daunting prospect, the star, who grew up in Aberdeen, is loving every minute of her solo success.

She told STV: “The album is the big thing because you know you dream of making an album, any musician does from when they’re a kid, so to finally have full piece of work that means everyone can see the different sides of me, instead of one or two singles, is the big event.”

Emeli refuses to take anything for granted and revealed she will be extremely nervous when she tunes into the charts this Sunday to find out how her album and single, Next to Me, do.

She said: “It is just so exciting to finally, finally release the album and also Next To Me is really a special song to me so to release that all at the same time is very exciting and I’m looking forward to seeing how it does on Sunday.

“I am very nervous, I mean am going to celebrate whatever happens, but ye I’ll be listening to the radio, I think I’ll maybe be on a show down in London but I can’t wait to find out.”

Emeli performed at a Northsound radio event in her hometown of Aberdeen yesterday and admitted she loves being home.

“My family still lives up in Alford so ye, it’s definitely still home,” she insisted, adding that she thinks the people are great and that she relishes the peacefulness of Aberdeenshire.

It could be quite a week for Emeli: as well as already winning the BRIT Awards Critic’s Choice gong, she has also been nominated for best British Breakthrough Act.

Speaking about her BRITs success, she said: “I went there to collect the critics choice awards and they said “oh well you’ve been nominated as well” so really wasn’t expecting that and just really looking forward to the night. I think it’s going to be an exciting one.”
