One of Scotland’s brightest up-and-coming singer-songwriters, Rachel Sermanni plays at Celtic Connections tonight – and has performed the first song from her debut EP for us.
Breathe Easy taken from the Black Currents EP, which was released on Monday. This evening she headlines a show at St Andrew's in the Square, where she last year supported John Grant.
Black Currents is the 20-year-old’s debut EP, and was produced by Communion’s Ian Grimble, who has recently been working on the Benjamin Francis Leftwich album.
Hailing from Carrbridge, Sermanni performed at Celtic Connections in 2011 for a New Voices show, which helps encourage young Scottish talent.
Since then it’s been a whirlwind of a journey, supporting artists such as Ron Sexsmith on a variety of UK and Europeans tours, as well as venturing to India to collaborate with musicians there.
She’s currently in the middle of recording her debut album in Ardgour, and it this taster is anything to go by it could be one of the best Scottish releases of 2012, with Sermanni’s star sure to rise higher in the interim.
