Arctic Monkeys as British breakthrough act-that is as absurd as it sounds! The Brits awards are now a towering bore with little to get excited about. The list is a commentary on the sorry state of both British and pop/rock music at present.

No one in the list will be remembered in 40 or 50 years time for originality apart from Lady Gaga! Compare that to the richness of the 1960s and 1970s-there is no comparison!

    End of story...!

Just saw Cold Play in the British breakthrough act which again makes no sense! They been around for many years now! Some of their music will be remembered 40 years hence but they are the rare exception these days.

Too few new bands are breaking through-you get the odd sucess like Jessie J but that is nothing to be happy about.

It is a pity that the brits removed the lifetime achievment award. Presumably it was removed so that they would not show up the dire quality of too many of the present bands these days...
