The Britain’s Got Talent singer finds herself frequently getting moving letters from fans who tell her about their lives. Susan says she gets mail from all ages of people from “20 to 80”.
Speaking to the Daily Record, she said: “My music was touching a lot of people.”
So she decided to make sure the songs on her new album, due out next month, reflected that.
“There are certain songs that I liked that resonated with the letters that people had written and sent to me.
“They wrote about grief, love, happy and sad times, it was all deeply moving and the songs mirror the emotion and life experience.
“I find music in many ways an easier way to communicate than just talking to people,” she added.
On the album, Someone To Watch Over Me, she covers songs by Depeche Mode, Tears For Fears and Paulo Nutini.
Her previous albums, I Dreamed A Dream and The Gift have sold more than 14 million copies around the world and she is officially Scotland’s most successful singer.
Susan admits she is starting to enjoy the remarkable transformation in her life.
She said: ““I went to Italy just for a holiday, something I would’ve never done before this.
“I had a trip to New York in August and then LA in early September. America is like my second home now.”
