Britain’s Got Talent star Jai McDowall hopes his debut album, Believe, will be top of our Christmas lists when it goes on sale on December 12.
Since winning the Talent show back in June, the Ayrshire singer has put his heart and soul into perfecting his dream record.
Jai explained: “Being in the studio was everything I hoped it would be and I loved the whole creative process. I like the style of singing I did on Britain’s Got Talent – a kind of mix of musical and pop – so we’re working along those lines.”
The 26 year old recorded stunning versions of much loved tracks, including U2’s With or Without You, Coldplay’s Fix You, Evanescence’s Bring Me To Life, Green Day’s Boulevard Of Broken Dreams and the song that won him the competition, Josh Groban’s To Where You Are.
Jai recently fulfilled another dream, when he got the chance to perform with hero Josh at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall.
The album also features a beautiful duet with Hayley Westenra.
“We’ve recorded a song called The Prayer, which has been made famous by the likes of Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. But instead of recording it in Italian we’ve done it in English. Hayley was a dream to work with and she’s got such a beautiful voice,” Jai explained.
To round off the perfect year, Jai will perform for the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance in December.
The former care worker is hoping to follow in the successful footsteps of fellow BGT Scot Susan Boyle and is delighted to be compared to the star.
He told STV: “I think it’s a fantastic thing. If I get even half of her success it’s going to be absolutely amazing for me. It’s dead funny cause people are calling me Jai-Bo!”
