In a move which brings together two of the strongest forms of entertainment, The Edge Festival has joined forces with the Edinburgh Comedy Festival to bring Music and Comedy together at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Festival promoter Dave Corbet talks exclusively to STV about this new approach.
"We found that a lot of the people coming to the shows in Edinburgh are maybe not people who would normally come to the Fringe. They are coming to see live music and looking to build on a night out as part of that.
"We thought it was a good idea to build it into the one programme so you have the options of music, comedy and even theatre."
This year's line-up of acts could put T In The Park to shame with current chart topper Example an indication of the festival's pulling power.
Dave explained: "We have people ranging from Tim Booth, the lead singer of James, to singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner, who is normally used to playing bigger venues but will be doing a couple of smaller more intimate shows in keeping with the spirit of the fringe."
Other acts include The National, Jimmy Eat World, Wiz Khalifa, Gomez, The Vaccines, Panic! At The Disco, Morcheeba and Guillemots. However, one act in particular is likely to bring something unusual to the festival. Steve-O, star of the hit US stunt show Jack Ass will be taking to the stage for a one man stand-up performance.
As Dave explained: "Steve-O wanted to be part of a rock'n'roll event. He is doing a stand-up show although he wont be stapling any parts of his anatomy to the stage. This wont be a Jack Ass routine, but he will be talking about his time on the show and his personal struggles with drink and drugs. It's something a little bit different and it will be interesting to see how it pans out."
Taking place throughout the month of August, The Edge Festival is a series of over 40 gigs, taking place across various venues in Edinburgh. For more information visit www.theedgefestival.com
