Jedward turn on Christmas lights and bring some fun to Glasgow

X Factor stars John and Edward Grimes turned on the Christmas lights in Glasgow’s Braehead shopping centre this afternoon. The Irish brothers, better known as Jedward, were met with hundreds of screaming fans desperate to get close to the talented twins.

The boys shot to fame in last year’s X Factor when they were picked to be one of the final three groups in judge Louis Walsh’s category. Even though they didn’t win the show, Jedward mania has been sweeping the nation ever since. The twins’ playful and happy-go-lucky attitude has kept them popular and they are loving every minute of their new found fame.

Jedward told STV’s Grant Lauchlan: “We’re so excited to be here, we’re turning the Christmas lights on in Glasgow! It’s a magical moment here, everyone’s got kids, everyone’s got tinsel, everyone’s got reindeer, it’s amazing!”

The reaction from the crowd is astounding. All Jedward have to do is wave and the air is filled with the sound of girls screaming in excitement. The twins think it’s crazy but they love it:

“I think it means they care, I think everyone’s so hyperactive right now. This is the first time we’ve done an interview where there are lots of people watching. It’s really cool that they’ve all turned out. This is a big moment and we’re really excited we’re turning the Christmas lights on.”

John and Edward have proved that you don’t have to win X Factor to be successful. The boys have had a UK number two single with a cover version of Vanilla Ice’s hit ‘Ice, Ice Baby’ and released their debut album, ‘Planet Jedward’, in July. They are also currently fronting a national headline tour.

The boys have been watching X Factor this year, and their favourites are Cher and One Direction. They are also rooting for Team Louis and hope that Mary will do really well. They also have thoughts on the Gamu Nhengu situation:

“We weren’t really watching at that moment so we couldn’t really comment but I think someone was talking about her being deported or something and I think she shouldn’t be deported. I think Gamu is a great singer. She should have a sleepover in Cheryl Cole’s house. They can have pillow fights!”

They may not have scooped the X Factor but for these Jedward fans, the Irish twins are number one.
