Last night (Thursday December 13) saw a host of the biggest names in pop descend on Glasgow’s SECC for a pre-Christmas music spectacular.
For stv.tv’s showbiz reporter Laura Boyd, Santa really did deliver an early festive treat as she got to have a good old gossip with the stars, before they took to the stage.
First up were the ever dashing McFly boys, who had scrubbed up especially for their Scottish fans, in their slick suits and purple suede shoes (well, apart from Danny, who had managed to lose his footwear en route to the press room and was jumping around in his fetching socks).
Amongst other things, the boys spoke of their recent song-writing ventures with One Direction. They wondered if we had ever heard of 1D north of the border – apparently they’re the next big thing. We’ll be sure to look out for them… cheeky chappies.
Next to come through the golden gates of the backstage area was miss pink hair extraordinaire Amelia Lily. The X Factor graduate revealed her love for Scotland and her hopes to return to Glasgow next year, with her own tour. Judging by the reaction from the audience tonight when the rock chick, dressed in leather, took to the SECC stage; Scots can’t wait to welcome Amelia Lily back with open arms.
Fellow X Factor stars, JLS also stopped by for a chat before performing. The lads told Laura about their hectic schedule for 2013, while Marvin got gushy when the conversation turned to babies, as he said he can’t wait to be a dad.
Continuing the boyband extravaganza, the lovely Lawson lads were next to say hello. No strangers to playing in Glasgow, they insisted you can’t beat the Scottish crowds, before discussing their plans to crack America next year and their newest celebrity fan… Taylor Swift. Look out Harry Styles!
Matt Cardle joined the Clyde 1 Live line-up a couple of weeks ago when Leona Lewis pulled out. He always goes down a storm at the Clyde shows and last night’s gig was no different as he brought his honest, heartfelt performance to his adoring Scots fans. Backstage, Matt discussed his forthcoming ‘Unplugged’ tour and had some words of wisdom for this year’s X Factor champ, James Arthur.
Last, but by no means least, Labrinth, gave us a quick insight into his incredible year, including his delight at working with our very own talented super Scot, Emeli Sande. Just like Matt Cardle, he spoke of X Factor winner James Arthur and said he would like to work with him in the future.
You can take a sneak peek at our interviews in the player above and visit stv.tv/entertainment from Monday December 17 to watch the chats with the stars in full.
With Calvin Harris also wowing the home crowds at Clyde 1 Live 2012, it’s safe to say the show was a true Christmas cracker that put a smile on the face of many a teeny-bopper and some older fans (including @STVLaura) alike.
