The boys from One Direction paid a surprise visit to Radio One yesterday as they marked their chart success by appearing on Reggie Yates' show.

Despite it being an unannounced appearance, a crowd of adoring Directioneers awaited the five as they left the studio.

Harry Styles and his bandmates had only just found out that both their new single, Little Things, and second album, Take Me Home, had both come in at number one in the charts for the week.

Louis Tomlinson took to twitter to thank the fans who had gone out and purchased both.

“The biggest thank you possible in 140 characters to everyone worldwide who has bought our album and single. You inspire us!” he tweeted.

Louis had every reason to celebrate at the weekend, having just celebrated a year together with his girlfriend Eleanor Calder.

Bandmate Zayn Malik may not have had it so easy at home, though. His girlfriend, Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards, had seen their new single kept back at number three behind One Direction and Bruno Mars.

The boys, who formed on The X Factor two years ago, did receive a congratulatory tweet from music and TV mogul Simon Cowell.

Simon said: “Massive congrats to the one d boys for having the number one single and album in the uk. Could not be happier for you.”
