Emma Gillespie is set to say goodbye to busking in the streets of Glasgow after winning £100,000 yesterday on Sky1 show, Must be the Music.
The talented Scots singer, who performs as Emma’s Imagination, scooped the show title last night and is set to take the charts by storm as fans have rushed to download her tracks.
Having only had four hours sleep since her big win, a tired but jubilant Emma told stv.tv: “It means the world to me. It’s the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me and it’s still sinking in so I think it’s going to take a couple of days till I realise the magnitude of it.”
Emma’s gentle, sensitive lyrics and stunning voice quickly saw her become one of the show favourites but did she ever think she would win? She said: “I was just really happy to be playing Wembley, so to win was the icing on the cake.”
Brought up in Dumfries, Emma is determined not to let success go to her head. The gorgeous star said: “Never forget where you’ve come from, I went to School in Dumfries and I went to St Josephs college and I’ve got a lot of friends back there so it’s lovely to be representing Dumfries on Must be the Music.”
The 27 yesr old singer / songwriter isn’t going to rest on her laurels though. She is going to use the money she has won to firther her career and she has very definite plans about where she wants to be.
Emma explained: “It’s important to be riding the wave. It’s just the beginning and I take it really seriously. The show was fantastic but for me it’s a platform to become a full time musician and artist.
“The moneys going to help me with recording and touring so hopefully it’ll keep going and I want to be around for a long time.”
Emma reflected on her achievement in disbelief saying: “Performing at Wembley is the biggest thing I’ve ever done. The energy I got off the crowd just about knocked me off my feet! I’ll never forget it so thanks to all the people who came to support me.”
Well done Emma!
