A gallery of fans' "shocking" portraits of Nick Cave hangs at his record company's offices.

The frontman of rock groups The Bad Seeds and Grinderman said he gets sent an unusual amount of fan-made art devoted to him sent to his record company, Mute, who have collected it together for him.

He explained: "There was a Nick Cave gallery, portraits people would send in, paintings and stuff, which were in turn shocking, baffling and completely awesome."

His Grinderman bandmate, Jim Sclavunos, added: "Some fell under the category 'naïve art'. To see them all together is quite something."

Nick added that although he enjoys seeing fans interpretations of his image, people don't always choose the right forum to present them to him.

He said: "When someone comes backstage and gives you a painting, like a giant painting, and you're on tour, it' difficult to carry around because it doesn't fit into your f***ing suitcase."

Jim added that in some cases they have to turn the pictures into 'gifts' to the hotels they are staying in.

He explained: "Remove and destroy the one on the hotel wall and put the other one up in its place.

"So if anyone checks into a hotel and sees a picture of Nick Cave as an Octopus or something like that, that's what's happened."

Grinderman's second album, 'Grinderman 2' is released on Monday (13.09.10).
