Jingle Belles: Annie Lennox to take on Susan Boyle and X Factor in bid for Christmas number one
Annie Lennox has quit her record label of 30 years to make a fresh assault on the charts and the Scottish singer has the Christmas number one spot in her sights.
The 55 year old will release an album of ‘dark’ versions of Christmas carols through Island Records.
Annie’s manager Simon Fuller, the creator of American Idol and the force behind the Spice Girls, said: "She (Annie) has sold tens of millions of albums. However there is one thing she has always wanted to do and now it's about to happen.
"Annie has always wanted to record an album of Christmas songs and to see this finally come to fruition is very special."
The album, entitled A Christmas Cornucopia, will be released on November 22, just in time for the Christmas 2010 chart battle.
Annie will go up against fellow Scots singer Susan Boyle, who is also set to release an album of Christmas classics. Susan’s record will include a duet with New York ambulance medic, Amber Stassi, who the BGT star discovered through her 'Search for a Star' competition.
There will of course be tough competition to reach the number one spot from this year’s X Factor winner, although after Rage Against the Machine’s triumph over Joe McElderry last year, Susan and Annie stand a good chance of having a very, merry Christmas.
Do you think the X Factor winner will triumph in the Christmas charts this year or do you think the popularity of Susan Boyle or Annie Lennox can beat the power of the show? Oh no – we’re talking Christmas already! Use our comment system to tell us.
