As easy as ABC: Lostprophets look forward to playing more intimate Glasgow gig

Lostprophets have been around for over ten years now and whilst the line-up has changed, the band continues to please its army of fans.

stv.tv chatted to newest member, drummer Luke Johnson, about the band’s forthcoming dates at the ABC in Glasgow on 23rd and 24th August.

Having played in Glasgow before with his previous band Beat Union, Johnson said: “I love Sauchiehall Street and I’ve been to the Garage a few times. He joked: “I’m looking forward to drinking Buckfast.”

Lostprophets have played to large audiences in venues like the SECC and festival stages. Are they looking forward to performing in slightly more intimate venues like the ABC?

Luke said: “On a personal level I am more used to shows of that size. As for the band, they grew up in the hardcore scene. They’re still not a stranger to a smaller club show.

“We are very excited about the vibes you get and everyone can see better. Arena shows are a hell of a lot of fun, but in 1500 capacity, you get your hardcore fans.”

Bands often remark about the lively reaction they receive from Scottish crowds but Luke was quick to point out fans up and down the country show a lot of love for the band.

He said: “Two places that it’s guaranteed to kick off in are Nottingham and Glasgow. And of course, when Lostprophets go home to Wales, it really does kick off.

“But we’re expecting some energy from the Scottish kids.”

Following Glasgow, the band will then play the Reading and Leeds festivals.

The drummer had one of his first gigs with Lostprophets at the festivals last year. He revealed: “It was always my dream to play Reading and Leeds. It’s a pretty big deal to come back again a year later and to play on the main stage.

“Lostprophets are known for putting on a show at the festivals. We plan to make it difficult for Queens of the Stone Age and Guns and Roses to follow!”

After a summer of gigging, what’s next for the band?

Luke revealed: “We are concentrating on writing new material. We want to close the gap between albums coming out and we’ve got a clear vision of where we’re going for it with a view to releasing a record next year.”
