Susan Boyle took the world by storm when she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent back in 2009 and blew the judges away with her incredible rendition of Les Miserables favourite I Dreamed a Dream.
When 44-year-old Melanie Masson appeared on the X Factor auditions on Saturday night, it felt like that magical Su-Bo moment was happening all over again.
The quirky mum-of-two explained that she runs a fairy themed singing class called Fairy Flutterby’s Little Rock-a-Byes for toddlers, but after putting her singing career on hold to have her two adorable children, she’s hoping now is her time to shine.
And shine she certainly did…
Melanie’s lung busting rendition of Janis Joplin’s Cry Baby left the judges and audience practically speechless. Gary Barlow was thrilled to unearth such a talent, and he told Melanie: “That was insane, oh my god that voice! You were guiding us through the song. It was amazing, it really was.”
Louis Walsh agreed: “Melanie where did that voice come from and where has it been? You’re 44, this is what the show is all about, finding somebody as amazing as you and giving them a chance.”
Guest judge Anastacia thought Melanie was outstanding, while Tulisa Contostavlos was blown away, as she told the fairy godmother : “You owned that stage and you absolutely rocked it – that is how you do an audition. Amazing.”
With a unanimous yes from the judges, Melanie is through to Bootcamp and one step closer to following in fellow Scot Susan’s hugely successful footsteps.
Could she be the next Scottish star to Dream a Dream and see it come true?
If the judges’ reaction was anything to go by, the Overs category could potentially be one to watch this year.
