Jail break: George wrote hit new songs while in prison.

Boy George will return to the stage for the first time since leaving jail on Saturday night. The former Culture Club singer - who served four months of a 15-month term for imprisoning and assaulting a male escort - is performing to promote of his comeback single, Amazing Grace - his first pop release in over a decade - at London's Merah nightclub.

The vocalist has recently signed a new record deal and the video for the song has already proved a hit on YouTube.

George has promised he will play his greatest hits, including Culture Club songs such as Karma Chameleon, and later in the night he will also perform a DJ set.

George - real name George O'Dowd - recently revealed he wrote a song about Amy Winehouse, entitled Your Pain Makes a Beautiful Sound, while he was in prison and he intends to include it on his new album.

He said: "I wrote a diary and songs. I got into trouble because I wrote on the wall, 'Some things are past understanding, you just need a place to land.' It was part of a lyric.

"I actually wrote a song about Amy when I was in prison."

George will be appearing at the Merah nightclub from 10pm on Saturday.
