Charlotte Church: ready to launch new assault on music market
Pop singer Charlotte Church has signed a deal worth £2million with an investment company rather than a traditional record deal, to fund her next album.
The Crazy Chick singer chose Power Amp, a music investment company, to financially back the recording and marketing of her latest album.
According to the BBC, the star, who is now a mother of two, decided to go with the company because she says it will give her the same funds as a major record label would, but with more “control and ownership”.
And the star said she was pleased to have secured the deal with Power Amp. She said: “This is a wonderful time to be a recording artist. It provides me with a financial commitment equivalent to that of a major record company."
This isn’t the first time Power Amp have provided financial backing for a music star, with the company also bankrolling Madness’ 2009 album, The Liberty Of Norton Folgate.
Charlotte shot to fame as an angelic 12-year-old classical singer, before moving into pop. She also dabbled in presenting, fronting her own chat show.
It was recently announced that the singer will also be making a return to TV, with a role on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s programme Over the Rainbow.
