There are many advantages to being over school age and going to the X Factor Live Tour … No one tall enough to block your view, no queue at the bar and no empty beer cups flying through the air … the list goes on. Disadvantages? The sheer abuse from anyone over the age of 16 "you’re going to see what?!"
I’m not ashamed to admit that I am a huge fan of the pop music machine that is X Factor. It has had a massive amount of stick over the years, with many saying it only builds up young hopefuls just to knock them down again. I don’t think that is necessarily true but the truth is that the majority of these acts (if any) will never play to audiences of this scale ever again. So give them their moment of glory … and my goodness Glasgow gave them that last night.
From the moment the group came on stage to cover The Black Eyed Peas hit I Gotta Feeling last night the crowd went wild. The noise was deafening as one by one the X Factor finalists took to the stage.
Like the TV show itself the whole production was super-slick – amazing dancers, complex stage sets, spectacular lighting and even a giant inflatable marshmallow man bopping around in the background as Jedward performed Ghostbusters.
Show-stealers Jedward even flew through the air on high wires at one point during the night. Although recent reports were untrue that the two-some had been given more songs than the other acts, everyone was given their chance to shine.
Winner Joe McElderry was saved for the end and took to the stage to sing his No1 single The Climb and cover of Taylor Swift’s Love Story amongst others to rapturous applause. This morning he tweeted that the Glasgow audience were ‘immense’ (yes I do follow him on twitter … cue more abuse). Roll on X Factor Live 2011!
